I Don’t Need a Backup Plan — God’s Calling Is Enough

Trusting God’s Timing and Provision for My Christian Business

A few weeks ago, during an altar call at church, something unexpected happened.

My pastor asked us to boldly declare a dream to God. I hadn’t planned to pray about this, but in that moment, I found myself declaring it with full confidence: “Lord, I didn’t plan to dream this. But if this dream really is from You, then please let my brand Sublime Adoration grow into something meaningful, perhaps something that reflects You. I’d love to be able to live off this one day, not just to support myself, but so I can give my full heart and time to the work You’ve given me. If it’s from You, I know that You’ll make a way. I just want to honour You with it all. Not for my name, but for Yours.”

It wasn’t a rehearsed prayer. It came from somewhere deep. That quiet moment planted a dream in faith, one I want to write down now, before it comes true, so I can remember to give God all the glory when it does.

The Temptation to Take Control

In the days since that bold prayer, my heart wavered.

I started making plans. My own kind. I thought about quitting my job and pretending to my family that I still had one, just in case my shop and blog didn’t earn anything by then. I wanted to take control, just in case God’s plan didn’t work out fast enough. That’s when today’s quiet time hit me hard.

God reminded me of that prayer - the one I declared with boldness and faith. And He whispered into my spirit:

“You don’t need a backup plan. Not with Me.”

When God Speaks, Even in Silence

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been hearing confirmations from God in unexpected ways. Prophetic speakers during a church conference, my personal devotional time, and even that simple, heartfelt prayer at the altar.

God has made it clear: this is my calling. This creative Christian business is not just a random pursuit. It’s a Kingdom assignment.

He hears me. He sees me. And He is the one who will prosper me. Not just in heaven, but in this life on earth.

Backup Plans Invite Doubt, Not Peace

I realised that when I try to come up with backup plans, I’m not preparing, I’m doubting. I’m secretly entertaining the idea that God might fail me. That maybe I need a way out just in case.

But when God gives a word, we don’t need a plan B.

Plan B says: “What if God doesn’t come through?”
Faith says: “He already has.”

God does not need our safety nets. He needs our surrendered hearts.

When we choose His way - even when it’s risky, uncertain, or unconventional - we will not fail.

Final Thoughts: Write the Vision Before It Happens

This post is my Ebenezer stone. My marker in the sand. I’m writing this down before Sublime Adoration becomes known. Before the income starts flowing. Before the world takes notice.

So when that day comes, I’ll look back and say:

“God did it. He really did.”

🙋‍♀️ FAQs

Q: Is it okay to quit my job without a guaranteed income?

A: It’s not always a simple yes or no. It depends on your relationship with God and how clearly He has spoken to you. The world often tells us to play it safe, to only take risks when everything is lined up. But when God gives you a Word and confirms it in multiple ways, there comes a point where obedience matters more than logic.

That said, it’s wise to pray deeply, seek counsel, and wait for peace, not pressure. Don’t quit out of frustration, move when the peace of God leads you. And remember, trusting God doesn't always look practical, but it's always purposeful.

Q: What if I feel like I’m hearing God wrong?

A: This is something almost every believer wrestles with. You're not alone. God understands our fears and doubts. He is a gentle Father, not a distant taskmaster. If you're sincerely seeking Him, He will make His voice clearer in time. He confirms through repeated signs. It may be through Scripture, sermons, spiritual leaders, dreams or even a random blog post.

Also, God rarely rushes. If it feels urgent or pressured, pause. But if you keep sensing the same direction paired with peace and clarity, you're likely hearing Him right. And even if you misstep, He is kind. He redirects. He’s not looking for perfection, just willingness.

Q: How do I know it’s not just my own ambition?

A: The truth is, ambition in itself isn’t bad. It’s what drives that ambition that matters. If your dream remains open to God’s direction… if you’re willing to let it go should He ask… if your deepest desire is to honour Him through it, then chances are that dream has been shaped by His Spirit.

Selfish ambition clutches and forces. God-given vision surrenders and trusts. One will exhaust you. The other will grow you. Keep asking God to search your heart, and He’ll show you what’s His and what isn’t. Gently and faithfully.
