Finding Stillness With God When Life Feels Too Loud
There are days when everything just feels loud. Not just the noise outside, but the chaos inside. Notifications, deadlines, voices in your head telling you to strive harder. Even when the room is quiet, your soul feels like it's under siege.
The worst part? You barely notice it's happening until something trivial breaks you. A spilled cup of tea. A minor comment. A task forgotten. Then you crack. Tears, frustration, shame; and wonder, Why am I like this?
It’s not the tea. It’s the buildup. The never-ending feed, the pressure to be everything, the inner critic hissing, You should be doing more. Somewhere in the noise, you forgot to be still with God.
π Scripture for Today
“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
Let’s not glaze over this verse like we’ve heard it a thousand times. “Be still” isn’t a gentle suggestion. It’s a command. It means stop. Shut it down. Stop striving. Stop scrolling. Stop spiraling.
Stillness isn’t passive, it’s spiritual defiance. You’re saying: The world doesn’t own me. My worth isn’t measured by my output. I’m not God, and I don’t have to be.
π‘ Real Talk: Stillness is Warfare
We treat overstimulation like it’s just part of modern life. It’s not. It’s spiritual warfare. When your soul is cluttered, when your mind is noisy, when you're always “on”, you lose the ability to hear the whisper of the Holy Spirit. And that whisper is where peace lives.
Think about Elijah. He didn’t find God in the fire, the wind, or the earthquake. He found Him in the silence. The whisper.
And here’s the truth: If you don’t fight to slow down, you’ll miss Him too.
π My Turning Point: A Silent Sunday
I turned off my phone for an entire Sunday. No Instagram. No YouTube. No music. Just the Bible, my journal, and silence. I won’t lie, it felt weird. Almost painful. Like detox.
But then something shifted. I could finally breathe. My thoughts calmed. God wasn’t shouting, He never does. But I could hear Him again. In the stillness. In the peace that doesn’t need a productivity hack to be real.
π A Bold Prayer for Stillness
Lord,
This world is loud, and my head is louder.
Teach me to fight for stillness.
Turn down the static. Silence the inner taskmaster.
Remind me that I don’t have to strive to find You.
You’re already here.
I want to hear You again.
Not just on Sundays, but every day.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
π΅ A Real Challenge for You
Unplug. For real.
Not forever. Just for 30 minutes.
No phone. No music. No noise.
Just you, your Bible, and the God who never left.
Go for a walk. Sit by the window. Lie flat on the floor if you need to.
Ask God: “What are You trying to say to me right now?”
Then don’t fill the silence. Just listen.
Stillness won’t feel natural. But that’s the point. You’re not here to blend into the chaos, you’re here to break free.
π¬ Let’s Reflect
What’s one thing you can cut out today to hear God more clearly?
Leave a comment or send me an email, I’d be honoured to pray for you.
π Final Word
The world won’t stop screaming. But you can stop listening.
And when you do, you’ll hear something louder than all the noise:
God’s peace.
